Agnew Associates provides
mechanical design services including heating, ventilating, and air conditioning for
occupied spaces and sophisticated chilled water/heating and water/steam distribution
systems. The firm has designed central utility plants for large commercial, higher
education, and medical projects. Agnew Associates uses the latest computer software to
calculate building heating and cooling loads, pipe sizes, and air duct sizes.

CASE STUDY:
"From a HVAC standpoint, Airport Manager Ken Day was most
concerned about temperature control in the new terminal," said Dwayne Agnew,
president and CEO of Agnew Associates. "The HVAC equipment and temperature controls in the
old terminal had deteriorated to the point that Day was receiving complaints daily about
uncomfortable conditions. Agnew Associates' challenge was to design an HVAC system
that would both respond rapidly to the infiltration of outside air into the building
through exterior doors and baggage carrousels, as well as respond to the changing solar
and occupant load at each passenger gate," said Agnew.
The building was designed to be very open. The architects wanted to minimize duct space
so as not to reduce the openness of the building. The firm worked closely with the
architectural team to conceal the ducts in the smallest space possible without creating
noise. Agnew Associates was successful in doing this, and now, the escalator creates more
noise than the air distribution system. |
