CASE STUDY:

In 1998, Agnew
Associates renovated the five-story library at Texas Tech University. The renovation
required several different electrical services, including installing a new power
distribution system, communications raceways, a fire alarm system, and a high-efficiency,
digitally controlled lighting system.
"All of the Universitys computer communications equipment is located in the
basement of the library. This posed a real challenge because we couldnt shut down
the power for longer than 15 minutes during installation," Reese Wright, Vice
President of Agnew Associates and Chief Electrical Engineer said. "We replaced and
re-served the existing electrical system, while managing to keep everything operational
the entire time. As a result, the university experienced no down time.
"Another challenge was meeting the Texas State Energy Code for the number of watts
allowed per square feet. The new regulations are strict regarding how much energy one can
consume for a given building occupancy. We were able to provide a well-lit and attractive
library, while complying with state regulations," Wright said.
