The Midland
Independent School District (MISD) passed a $32 million bond issue in early 1987. This
bond issue was passed specifically for the renovation and upgrade of all of the District's
elementary schools. There were 13 total schools involved in the bond program. The schools
were split among three different local architecture firms as well as the internal staff of
MISD. Agnew Associates completed all thirteen school projects with four different clients.Agnew Associates replaced the mechanical sytem and installed a
new chiller, boiler, and air units in each school. The District selected multi-zone air
unit distribution with electronic controls as the preferred system for all schools. The
firm located the air units in dedicated mechanical rooms with individual ducts serving the
designated classroom zones of the building. Some schools required the installation of dual
duct VAV mechanical systems due to the limited overhead space available.
Electrical systems
included lighting and power, communication, and fire alarm systems. Lighting was designed
to provide high visual comfort for the space as well as meet or exceed state energy
guidelines. Each classroom was designed to accommodate computer technology teaching
systems.
Agnew Associates
provided the following services: HVAC, electrical and plumbing design, construction documents, and construction administration. |
