In 1997, a new Emergency Center was constructed for
University Medical Center.Agnew Associates
designed HVAC systems that included variable air volumes
designed with reheat capability. The system used two custom air-handling units, one of
which was capable of smoke control. The chilled water system was de-coupled from the
central distribution system, using a variable flow, primary pumping system with constant
volume secondary pumps serving each air-handling unit. The de-coupling process raised the
temperature difference between the chilled water supply and return.
Plumbing systems
included standard services for toilets and treatment areas including de-ionized water.
Oxygen, vacuum, and compressed air comprised the medical gas systems.
For the electrical systems, Agnew Associates installed energy
efficient fluorescent lighting with specialized halogen quartz exam lighting in treatment
and examination rooms. Power distribution was designed to include emergency power from the
facility's central distribution systems. Other electrical systems included fire alarm,
communications, nurse call, and code blue systems.
Agnew Associates provided the following services: HVAC, electrical, and plumbing design,
construction documents, and construction administration. |
